Upgrade to the Ronan release completed. All clear, no apparent bugs. Of course I didn’t actually encounter any of the bugs that it was fixing, so I didn’t really expect anything to change.
No significant changes, but it includes security fixes, so if you’re running Wordpress, best upgrade soon.

Update: As mentioned in the comments below, following these instructions screws up IE6, it makes IE6 redirect all page load requests to the defaut browser (in my case, FireFox). I’m very sorry to those who ran this. Also there are a number of things that don’t work, like tabs and toolbars.
TredoSoft has an application which, for me at least, works great. Download their Internet Explorer 7 standalone Installer and ir will download the IE7 installer for you and set it up as a standalone application. There are still a couple of things that don’t work, but they’re less important if you just want this to test how pages look. They also have a regex script to undo everything if this installer happens to screw up IE6 for you.
Just to repeat - do not follow the instructions on the rest of this post, they don’t work. I’m leaving it here only as an example of what doesn’t work.

Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP Available Now
Today we released Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP. I encourage everyone to download the final version from http://www.microsoft.com/ie.
We listened carefully to feedback from many sources (including this blog) and worked hard to deliver a safer browser that makes everyday tasks easier. When I first posted publicly about IE7, I wrote that we would go further to defend users from phishing and malicious software. The Phishing Filter and the architectural work in IE7 around networking and ActiveX opt-in will help keep users more secure. IE7 also delivers a much easier browsing experience with features like tabbed browsing (especially with QuickTabs), shrink-to-fit printing, an easily customizable search box, and a new design that leaves more screen real estate for the web site you’re viewing. IE7’s CSS improvements are incredibly important for developers as many of you have made quite clear. I also think IE7’s RSS experience and platform are important, powerful, and innovative.
No word yet on the supposed automatic upgrade through Windows Update. I’ll not be installing it until I can get it running standalone without removing IE6.Update: got it working!
NeoSmart Files noticed that Yahoo seemed to get the installer first, before the public release. I guess there was some sort of promo deal going on there.

Despite being involved in a hit-and-run car crash this week, Nick Bradbury has still released a new beta version for FeedDemon. There are, as always, a huge number of improvements & new features, but the one I’m happiest about is that my Posting to Live Writer from FeedDemon app is now completely redundant. FeedDemon now detects Live Writer as a blogging client when you select ‘auto-detect’ in the Configure Publishing Tools window. Alternatively, if you don’t want to loose the other publishing tools listed there, you can create a new Tool called ‘Windows Live Writer’ with Command Line or URL value of {wlr}. Good to see the 3 R’s are still being taught in schools.
Oh, and the new paginated newspaper view with Blue Vista style rocks!
